Hybrid Battery Repair in Salt Lake City
Toyota and Lexus NiMH packs rebuilt module by module: Prius, Prius c, Camry, Highlander and Lexus hybrids. Battery work only, with removal and installation through partner mobile mechanics.
Three ways to get a working hybrid battery
All three carry our 90-day limited warranty. Not sure which option fits? Text us your year, model and warning light and we'll tell you.
Buying a used hybrid? Our $200 battery check reads the pack before you commit, and the fee is credited in full toward a rebuild within 60 days.
Vehicles we rebuild
Labor follows the number of modules in the pack. Modules are extra, and only the ones that fail testing are replaced.
More than a single failed module replacement
Toyota monitors the pack in pairs of modules, so by the time a code sets, other modules are usually falling behind the one that failed. Swapping the obvious module can get the car moving, but it often leaves the next failure in the pack.
- Replaces the module or block that set the code
- Little or no time for capacity testing
- May miss other weak modules
- Can be a useful short-term repair
- Every module tested out of the car
- Load behaviour, resting voltage and remaining capacity
- Weak modules replaced with tested, matched modules
- Pack balanced and rechecked before it goes back
A rebuild is not the right answer for every pack. If too many modules are degraded, or the pack has heat damage or corrosion, we'll say so after testing and you can weigh a rebuilt pack or a replacement instead. What we test and why →

What hybrid battery trouble looks like
If you're seeing one or more of these, it's worth getting the pack evaluated:
- Red triangle warning light
- "Check Hybrid System" message
- P0A80 trouble code
- Hybrid battery fan running often
- Battery gauge moving up and down quickly
- Poor fuel economy
- Reduced power or acceleration
Get a faster estimate
Text us with as much of this as you can. The more detail, the more useful our reply will be:
- Year, make, and model
- Current mileage
- Warning lights or trouble codes
- Whether the car still drives
- Your location in the Salt Lake area
- A photo of the dash warning lights if possible
Frequently asked
How much does a hybrid battery rebuild cost?
Labor is $400 to $1,000 depending on the pack type, plus the modules that fail testing at about $45 each for Prius and Camry-type packs and about $65 each for Highlander and Lexus RX packs. A Prius with 8 modules replaced, for example, comes to $860. You get an exact estimate by email after testing, before any work. See pricing by pack type →
How long does it take?
Most 6-cell packs (Prius, Prius c, Prius v, Camry, Avalon and the 6-cell Lexus packs) are ready in 7 to 10 days once the pack is here; Highlander and Lexus RX packs take about 14 days. We confirm a date with your estimate. Same-day service is possible with notice, at a higher price: you leave with a pack of all working modules and we take yours as it is, so it's priced as a full set of modules for your pack type at 25% off the module price, plus labor. A Prius c is 20 × $45 less 25% = $675, plus $400 labor = $1,075; a Prius is 28 × $45 less 25% = $945, plus $500 labor = $1,445. Ask when you text.
Do you remove and install the battery?
No. We do the battery work; removal and installation are available through partner mobile mechanics (Dylan's Mobile Repair, 801-634-2048) who can pull the pack at your home or work and bring it to us. That work is between you and the mechanic, and our warranty covers the battery work only. Installation partners →
What customers are saying
"Matt was able to help me with my 2008 Prius, that had previously been worked on by a different mechanic who had done a terrible job. He was able to diagnose and replace certain cells that were defective at a reasonable price. I now have my car operating properly again. I would highly recommend those of you that need some work on that hybrid battery to contact Matt."
— Bob P.
"I needed my hybrid's battery repaired and couldn't be happier with the service I received. They provided a fast, affordable hybrid battery replacement for my Camry and were incredibly transparent about the pricing and warranty. The technicians clearly specialize in EV and hybrid vehicles and ran a thorough diagnostic before doing any work."
— Derek Cohen, Sandy
"Great service. Excellent communication."
