How a Rebuild Works
From your first text to pickup: what happens, what you get, and how long it takes. We work on the battery pack; partner mobile mechanics handle the car.

-
Text us
Send your year, model, mileage and the warning light or code. We'll say whether a rebuild is likely to make sense and what to expect on price.
-
Get the pack to us
A partner mobile mechanic removes the battery at your home or work and brings it in. If it's already out of the car, bring it yourself, by appointment, to us in Cottonwood Heights; we send the address when you book.
-
We test every module
Each module comes out of the pack and is tested on its own: load behaviour, resting voltage and remaining capacity, with capacity cycling when a module needs a closer look.
-
You approve the estimate
You get an email with how many modules need replacing, the price, and an approve link. Nothing is replaced until you approve. If the pack isn't worth rebuilding, we say so. If you decline, there's nothing to pay; just collect your pack within 14 days.
-
The rebuild
Weak modules are replaced with used OEM modules we've cycled, tested and matched to the ones kept in your pack. The pack is balanced and rechecked before it goes back.
-
Pick up and reinstall
Pay at pickup by cash, Venmo or Zelle, take your printed test report, and have your mechanic reinstall the pack. Please collect within 14 days.
- Turnaround once the pack is here7–10 days for 6-cell packs, about 14 days for Highlander and RX
- Same-day serviceWith notice; all modules at 25% off plus labor (Prius example: $1,445)
- HoursMon – Sat, 8a – 6p
What we look at on every module
Toyota monitors the pack in pairs of modules, so a code points at a pair, not a module, and other modules are usually falling behind by the time it sets. Testing each module out of the car is the only way to know which ones to replace.
- Voltage sag under load. How much a module drops when current is actually pulled from it.
- Resting voltage stability. Which modules are quietly self-discharging.
- Remaining capacity. How much usable energy a module still holds compared with its original rating.
- Capacity cycling when appropriate. Charge and discharge cycles that show how a module behaves over time, not in one snapshot.
- Internal resistance comparison on 6-cell modules: Prius, Prius c, Camry and the 6-cell Lexus packs. Highlander and Lexus RX modules get the load, voltage and capacity checks.
- Module matching and pack balance. Replacements are chosen to sit close to the modules that stay, and the whole pack is balanced before it goes back.
Why capacity matters: voltage alone does not tell the whole story. A module can read fine at rest and still hold little usable energy or drop quickly under load.
Paperwork and follow-up
- Before any workAn estimate by email with an approve link
- At pickupA printed test report for your modules, and an invoice by email
- Warranty90-day limited warranty from pickup
- Afterwards, if you opt inCheck-in emails at about 30, 85 and 365 days
The check-ins ask how the battery is doing and are how we track how our rebuilds hold up. You can say no to them and still get the estimate and invoice by email.
Partner mobile mechanics
We don't work on the car itself. These mechanics can remove the pack at your home or work, bring it to us, and reinstall it when it's done. They can also clean the battery cooling fan and ducts while the pack is out.
- Dylan's Mobile Repair · 801-634-2048 · dylansmobilerepair.us
Installation is arranged between you and the mechanic and isn't included in our prices. Our warranty covers the battery work only. If you already have a mobile mechanic you trust, they're welcome to bring the pack to us.
90-day limited warranty
If the battery fails within 90 days of pickup because of a module we installed or kept, bring it in and we'll test it and replace the failed modules at no charge for modules or our labor. Removing and reinstalling the battery isn't included, and damage from removal or installation by others, accidents, or other vehicle problems isn't covered.
